What do Teachers Really Want? The Classroom Supply List Teachers Really Want!
Posted on July 20 2019
Hey Girl. Back to school snuck right up on me, how about you?! It's time to get moving on shopping back to school supplies and wardrobe and I don't know about you but the supplies were a tough one for me last year!
Our school sent home a crazy large supply list and I can remember at meet your teacher night we got another one on top of that, now our school wanted all of these items strictly for the classroom and I know not every school is set up that way but y'all...well over $100 later on just school supplies for the classroom and zero for our home, I remember thinking "There, that ought to hold his class over for a while...."
Insert teachers everywhere laughing hysterically. Then our weekly classroom newsletter came in and then another and another and on all these newsletters were requests for MORE donations of things that weren't even on the school list. To make matters worse, who else has shown up on day one and seen that not everyone donated, it feels unfair right? Imagine our teachers, as our sweeties advance grades the number of parents donating items drops with each grade year.
So I had a thought this year, okay I can't do well over a $100 on classroom supplies again and my guess is the list of 20-30 items is turning off parents right out of the gate. I have quite a following and we have our fair share of teachers in the bunch, what if I asked them to share with me the items they most wish parents showed up with on day one and then what if I shared that list.
So I did. Here it is, several of our finest teachers participated and shared with me their most wished 1st-day items and grade levels. I have compiled what I'm coining, the classroom supply list teachers really want! I ordered them in order of most requested, FYI.
Here's how I see it, I'd rather say okay I am down with spending $50 to help our teacher out. $30 Teachers Pay Teachers Gift Card, 10 Tissue Boxes and a pack of flair pens it is or however, you prefer! Chances are she will appreciate it more than me sending a bag of tons of random stuff I tried to pick up on sale to grab everything on the school generic list. MIDDLE and HIGH SCHOOL MOMS, so many of the teachers that participated were upper grades and it is INSANITY they universally said that they rarely, if ever, get donations on the 1st day. One teacher shared every summer she purchases over 200 composition notebooks because parents weren't buying them when she asked. Another shared her school only issues 1 tissue box per classroom a month and on average she goes through 1 box every 3 days, my mouth dropped! So don't forget about your upper-level teachers!
Until Next Time,
XOXO, Selena
